Updating a driver
  • In the Device Manager, double-click the device you want to update

  • Click the Drivers tab of the Properties dialog box

  • Click the Update Driver button

  • Select the Install from a list or specific location radio button, then click Next

  • Select the Don't search, I will choose the driver to install radio button, then click Next

  • Click the Hard Disk button

  • Click Browse, then navigate to the file containing the driver update

  • Click the Open button

  • Click OK

  • Click Next

  • Click Finish

Rolling back a driver
  • In the Device Manager, double-click the device you want to roll back

  • Click the Drivers tab of the Properties dialog box; click the Roll Back Driver button

  • Click Yes

  • Click OK

Starting in Safe Mode

  • If your computer and monitor, then immediately press and hold down the F8 key

  • The Windows Advanced Options menu appears. use the up and down arrow keys to highlight the Safe Mode option, then press Enter

  • Use arrow keys again to highlight the operating system you want to start, then press Enter

  • At the Welcome screen, click the Administrator account to use

  • Click the Yes button in the dialog box

  • When finished using Safe Mode, restart your computer normally

Restoring your computer

  • Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore

  • Click the Restore my computer to an earlier time radio button, then click Next

  • The Select a restore point screen opens showing a calendar with all the dates that have restore points in bold

  • Click the most recent day with a restore point before the problems started, then click Next

  • The Confirm Restore Point Selection asks you to confirm the restore point you have selected and provides some information about the restore process; click Next

  • A dialog box will detail the progress of the restoration, and the computer restarts when complete. Click OK

Manually creating a restore point

  • Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore

  • Click the Create a restore point radio button, then click Next

  • Type a description for the restore point and click Create

  • Click Close
