Displaying System Information |

Click
Start, All Programs,
Accessories, System Tools, System Information -
Click the System Summary
folder in the left pane to display general
information -
Click the plus sign (+) next to a category name to
expand the list, then click the specific item about
which you want to view more details

Using the IPCONFIG command to check your TCP/IP
settings |
-
Click
Start,
All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt -
Type
ipconfig,
then press
Enter
|
Using the PING command to test connectivity |
-
Click
Start, All Programs,
Accessories, Command Prompt
-
Type
ping x.x.x.x, where
x.x.x.x is the IP address of a remote computer, then
press Enter
-
If you
receive a response, this means the connection
between your computer and the remote one is good
|
Using the TRACERT command |
-
Click
Start,
All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt
-
Type
TRACERT
x.x.x.x,
where x.x.x.x is the IP address of a remote computer
(or type
TRACERT
name,
where name is the destination domain name), then
press
Enter

Displaying the Registry |

In the
Start menu, click
Run
-
Type
regedit in the
Open text box, then
click OK
-
Click the plus sign
(+) next to a key to expand it and display the
contents
-
Click an item to
display its values

Backing
up the Registry |
-
Click
Start, All Programs,
Accessories, System Tools, Backup
-
In the Welcome to Backup or
Restore Wizard screen, click the
Advanced Mode
link, then click
Next
-
Click the Only back up the
System State data radio button, then click
Next
|
Restoring the Registry |
-
Click Start, All Programs,
Accessories, System Tools, Backup
-
In the Welcome to Backup or Restore Wizard screen,
click the Advanced Mode
link, then click Next
-
Click the Restore Wizard
radio button, then click
Next
-
Make sure the disk that contains your backup file is
inserted in the drive
-
Click the Browse
button and navigate to the backup file on the disk
-
Choose to restore the entire System state, not just
the Registry, then click the
Start restore
button
-
Answer the prompts in the dialog boxes, then click
Finish

Searching the Registry |
-
In the Registry, click
Edit,
then Find
-
In the Find dialog box, type
the text you wish to find
-
Narrow your search by clicking
in the check boxes marked Keys, Values, Data,
or Match whole string only
-
Click
Find Next
to begin your search
