Displaying the Task Manager
  • Press and hold down Ctrl+Alt, then press Delete

Using Task Manager
  • In the Task Manager, click the Application tab to view the status of programs that are running

  • In the Task Manager, click the Processes tab to view the status of the processes that are running

  • In the Task Manager, click the Performance tab to check the status of your computer's performance

  • In the Task Manager, click the Networking tab to view the status and performance of the network

Using Task Manager to close a program that is not responding

  • Display the Task Manager and click the Application tab

  • Select the program that is not responding from the Task list

  • Click the End Task button

  • Click the End Now button to close the program

Displaying the Device Manager

  • Click Start, then Control Panel

  • Double-click System

  • In the Hardware tab of the System Properties dialog box, click the Device Manager button

Printing information about hardware
  • In the Device Manager screen, click the device or the category of device for which you want to print information

  • In the Action menu, click Print

  • In the Print dialog box, choose from one of the Report types by clicking the appropriate radio button: the System summary option prints a summary of the devices connected to your computer. The Selected class or device option prints a report for the individual device or the entire class of device types selected. All devices and system summary prints a report about every device installed on your computer along with a hardware summary

  • Click the Print button

Using the Device Manager to obtain details about a device
  • In the Device Manager, click the plus sign (+) next to the category folder that contains the device

  • Double-click the particular device about which you want more information

  • In the device's Properties dialog box, click the General tab to obtain the name of the manufacturer and the operating status of the device

  • Click the Driver tab to obtain information about the version number or other information related to the driver provider, date, or digital signer

  • Click Resources tab to view the resources used by the device driver and a list of possible conflicting devices

  • Click OK to close the Properties dialog box when done obtaining the information you need
