Running Disk Cleanup
  • Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup

  • Click OK, then click Yes

  • Click OK

Removing Windows component and installed programs
  • Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup

  • Click the More Options tab

  • Click Clean Up..., then select the components you want to remove

Running Check Disk

  • Click Start, then click My Computer

  • Right-click the Local Disk (C:) drive

  • In the context menu, click Properties

  • Click the Tools tab

  • Click the Check Now... button

  • Click the two check boxes to accept both options

  • Click OK, then click OK again

Using the Disk Defragmenter

  • Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Defragmenter

  • Click the drive you want to defragment and click the Analyze button

  • Click Defragment

  • Click Close

Using Scheduled Tasks

  • Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Scheduled Tasks

  • Double-click Add Scheduled Task, then click Next

  • Click the program you want to schedule, then click Next

  • Click one of the radio buttons to select when to perform this task, then click Next

  • Click the appropriate box and type the Start time and frequency for the task, then click Next

  • Type your password, and then type it again in the Confirm Password field; then click Next

  • Click Finish

Using the Backup tool

  • Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Backup

  • Click the Backup Wizard button, then click Next

  • Click the appropriate radio button to select what you want to back up, then click Next

  • Click the check box beside each item you want to back up, and then click Next

  • Select the drive where you want to store your backup file and type a name for the backup file

  • Click Open, then click Next

  • Click Finish

Running the Restore Wizard
  • Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Backup, then click Next

  • Click the radio button next to Restore files and settings and click Next

  • Click the check box next to any drive, folder, or file that you want to restore and then click Next

  • Click Finish

  • Locate the file you want to use, then click OK

  • Click Close, then click the close button to close the Backup window
