Removing and restoring window elements
  • In the View menu, click the element to remove or restore

  • The element, and the check mark next to the menu option, are removed or restored

Changing the unit of measurement
  • In the View menu, click Options

  • In the Options dialog box, click the Options tab

  • Click the radio button next to the unit of measurement you want to use

  • Click OK

Setting a document's margins

  • In the File menu, click Page Setup

  • In the Margins area, type the amount of space to use for each edge of the document

  • Click OK

Typing paragraphs

  • Click in the text area, then begin typing

  • Press the Enter key whenever you want to start a new paragraph

  • Use blank paragraphs to create additional space between paragraphs

Changing a paragraph's alignment

  • Move the insertion point to the paragraph

  • Click the toolbar icon representing the alignment you want or

  • In the Format menu, click Paragraph, or right-click the paragraph, then click Paragraph in the context menu

  • In the Alignment drop-down list, click the alignment to use

  • Click OK

Adjusting indents using the Paragraph dialog box
  • Place the insertion point in the paragraph or select several paragraphs

  • In the Format menu, click Paragraph, or right-click the paragraph, then click Paragraph in the context menu

  • Type the indents you want

  • Click OK

Adjusting indents using the rules
  • Place the insertion point in the paragraph you want to change or select several paragraphs whose setting you want to change

  • To adjust the left indent, click the block at the bottom of the left margin and drag it to the right

  • To adjust the right indent, click the triangle at the right margin and drag it to the right

  • To adjust the first line indent, click the top triangle at the right margin and drag it to the right or left

Adding bullets to a paragraph
  • Place the cursor in the paragraph to be bulleted or select a group of paragraphs

  • In the Format menu, click Bullet Style, or right-click the paragraph, then click Bullet Style in the context menu or click the bullet icon on the toolbar
