Regional settings and personalizing your computer |

When the computer
restarts, in the Welcome
dialog box, click Next-
In the Regional Settings
dialog box, click Next -
In the Personalize Your
Software dialog box, in the
Name field, type
your name -
If appropriate, in the
Organization field,
type the name of the organization -
Click
Next

In the
Computer
Name and Administrator Password
dialog box, in the
Computer

field, type the name of your computer -
In the
Administrator password
field, type the password for your computer's
Administrator account -
In the
Confirm
password
field, type the password again -
Click

Dialing Information
dialog box, specify the area code, outside line, and
type of dialing, then click
Next -
In the
Date and
Time Settings
dialog box, select Typical Settings, then click
Next -
In the
Network
Settings
dialog box, select
Typical
Settings,
then click
Next -
In the
Workgroup or Computer Domain
dialog box, if your computer is part of a network
domain for which your computer has an account, click
the
Yes
radio button and type the domain name in the
Workgroup or computer domain
field -
If your
computer is not part of a network domain, then click
the
No
radio button and type the workgroup name in the
Workgroup or computer domain
field -
Click
Next -
In the
Completing Windows XP Setup Wizard
dialog box, click
Finish

Configuring logon options |

In the
Users of this Computer
dialog box of the
Network Identification Wizard,
if users must log on to use this computer, click the
Users must enter a user
name and password to use this computer
radio button
-
To
bypass the logon, click the
Windows always assumes the
following user has logged on to this computer
radio button

If
you're selected the bypass option, then in the
User name drop-down
list, click the user
-
In the
Password field,
type a password for the default user
-
In the
Confirm
password field, type the password again
-
Click
Next
-
In the
Completing the Network
Identification Wizard dialog box, click
Finish

In the
Start
menu, click
Windows
Update
-
On the
Windows
Update
home page, click
Product
Updates

If
prompted, click
OK
to install the update program

On the
Product
Updates
page, check the check box beside each update you
want to install

Click
Download

Setting
up Automatic Updates |

Click
Start, Control Panel, System

Click the
Automatic Updates
tab

Click the Keep my
computer up to date check box

Click
OK

the Downloads page |

Select a type of download
(Critical Update, Service Pack, etc.) to display the
list of updates of that type

In the list of downloads,
click the update you want to download

Follow the instructions
provided for downloading the update
