... on XP Activation
Since the point of the XP
product activation is to prevent users from passing
around an XP installation CD to be used by friends or
colleagues to install XP on their machines, the process
of activation takes a snapshot (so to speak) of your
system's hardware profile. This being the case, if you
are planning any major hardware changes, such as
replacing the motherboard or CPU, it is wise to put off
the XP activation until this is done and your system is
running properly. You do not want to activate XP and
then find that a new hardware configuration suddenly
invalidates it. Adding peripheral devices, such as a
scanner or DVD player, should not present a problem in
this regard. |
You can also choose to convert
the object you have embedded in the container document
to have it display as an icon, rather than as the object
itself. This can be useful because your computer will
use less memory and run faster this way. You can convert
the object in the Edit
menu by choosing Convert...
In any case, regardless of how you decide to display the
object, you can still edit it. |

A different method for
embedding and linking objects is available. from the
Insert menu click
Object. The Insert
Object dialog box opens. Click the
Create from File tab.
Select a file by typing its name or browsing. When you
click OK, the file
is embedded in the document. If you click the Link to
file check box, the object will be linked instead. |
